What Qualities Should Vendors Possess?
May 1998 Want to know the secret to long and successful vendor relationships? According to small-business owners who participated
in last month's online survey, clear communications and great customer service are key. Nearly half of all survey participants said their communications with vendors were very open; by clearly defining their needs, their expectations were being met.
When asked which attributes were most important for a vendor to have, 60 percent of participants reported that great customer service, being attuned to the company's needs and having insight to market information were most important. The remaining 40 percent identified flexibility and reliability as important attributes, specifically as they pertain to offering diverse payment options and meeting deadlines.
How did small business owners rate their vendor relationships overall? An overwhelming 86 percent reported their relationships to be above average or average, and 60 percent said their longest vendor relationships ranged between 3-5 years or longer.
It is evident from these results that mutual respect between business owners and vendors unlocks the potential for valuable, productive and financially rewarding relationships.
